As the school year begins, so did the art ventures of OIS students. In line with their Drawing unit, year 7 students explored the outdoors and practiced drawing from direct observation. The on-the-spot drawing lesson was aimed at developing concentration and patience as students applied contour drawing of a chosen area in front of the school. The class sat for nearly a full period to sketch the visible lines of the larger structures and objects within their view including the fine details of shape and pattern. Through this Contour Drawing exercise, the students are 'learning to see' and draw what they actually see rather than 'drawing what they know' from memory or imagination.
